Orange Herdy

Twin/super king room

Tucked under the eaves of our Victorian B&B, our Orange Herdy room offers a cosy, spotlessly clean and welcoming space for your stay.

Furnished with characterful pieces and dressed in bright, cheerful cotton bedlinen, this room has a homely, quirky vibe with plump pillows and woolly blankets at the ready if you want to get extra snug. Light floods in during the day and, come night-time, the black-out blinds create the perfect conditions for a restful sleep. Orange Herdy can be set up with either twin beds or a super king-size — just let us know your preference when booking.

From the roof window you’ll catch views across the neighbouring red sandstone homes and gardens that make the Beacon Edge Conservation Area so special, with the Lake District Fells in the distance. The room shares a bright and gleaming bathroom, complete with a bath and overhead shower, fresh towels and locally made Pure Lakes toiletries.

Imagine yourself here

Make yourself at home

Turn the key in the lock of the door of your room and make yourself at home. Perhaps make a cuppa in your “Herdy” mug – choose from a range of teas/coffee topped off with jersey milk (let us know if you prefer non-dairy) – and relax.

Plan your adventures

Browse the plentiful publications and leaflets to find out more about the local area and explore the amazing options for treks and guided walks that we offer at North View Adventure, our sister company.

Explore the local area

If possible, give yourself time to just chill, before you head down the hill for a 10 minute walk into town for a bite to eat, watch a film or explore the local shops.

…then relax and unwind

On your return, let yourself in – a front door key is provided – you could pop on the TV in the downstairs guest lounge, watch the sunset from the back garden (yes, we do get sunny weather in Cumbria) or just head up to your room for a cosy night in!

Our Sustainability Ethos

Ethical and environmentally friendly practices are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to supporting our local community, protecting the environment, and providing a welcoming, responsible stay for our guests.

How we make a difference:

  • Locally Sourced Produce: We purchase fresh ingredients from local independent businesses, including milk from nearby farms and fruits and vegetables from the Cumbrian Farmers’ Co-op, as well as from our own garden when possible.
  • Eco-Friendly Practices: We use environmentally friendly cleaning products, recycle and compost to reduce waste, and source our energy from a British renewable energy provider.
  • Supporting Our Community: We donate 2% of our profits to Penrith Mountain Rescue, helping to keep this vital service operational. Over the past two years, our B&B has raised over £800 for the team through stays and charity events.
  • Responsible Travel: We encourage guests to explore the Lake District and Eden Valley using public transport, walking, or cycling, helping to reduce carbon emissions while fully experiencing the beauty of the area.
  • Responsible Hospitality: Every aspect of our B&B is designed to minimize environmental impact while enhancing your comfort and connection to this stunning landscape.

By combining sustainable practices with local engagement, we aim to offer our guests not just a place to stay, but a positive impact on the community and environment they visit.
